Why Do People Seek Help From Sleep Consultants?

Life with a baby can be exhausting, and if they struggle to sleep much at night it can becomes even harder for parents to cope. Over time the tiredness accumulates and may parents feel they are unable to cope or that there is ‘something wrong’ with their baby. Often parents reach for sleep training manuals, ask friends for advice or resort to harsh methods such as leaving the baby to cry.

If you are feeling fearful of the nights, and unsure how to move forward with an infant who is very unsettled then please reach out for support from a qualified professional like myself. It is vital that infant development and biological norms are understood to be able to navigate the vast array of so called ‘expert sleep training methods’ or expensive home support options. We now understand so much more about the infant brain, attachment formation and the sleeping and feeding relationship that we are able to analyse, unpick and rebuild sleep challenges with the confidence of ‘doing no harm’.

Once parents understand the ‘why’ of infant sleep behaviour, they are better able to navigate the bumps in the road and support their baby’s into a more peaceful rhythm and journey which fits in better with their family’s individual lifestyle.

What Methods Are Used?

I only use evidence based sleep-coaching and approaches, tailored to each baby’s needs, to evaluate and (where beneficial) support changes to all areas of their sleep set-up. From sleep environments, nap routines, bedding, associations, feeding and comforting, development leaps and conditions such as reflux, colic and teething to sleep cycles and resettling techniques.

Understanding how to implement change to a challenging situation and at what pace is the key to moving towards a more sustainable infant sleep routine- which will in turn lead to more quality rest for babies and tired parents.

If there was a ‘magic medicine’ for more sleep then we would all be self-administering and someone would have made a fortune selling it! Sadly there isn’t. However there are many tonics that can be adapted and applied for each individual baby and family to find what is right for them to confidently start to sleep better.
