MAMBA Hypnobirthing
Session 1
Welcome
I hope you all enjoyed dipping your toes into the world of hypnobirthing this session! It is a bit of a leap of faith, but hopefully now that you have learned more about the neuroscience behind hypnosis, and how it can really help women in labour. As you begin to feel less befuddled with it all you will become ready to embrace it as another toolkit to use within your birth preparation and antenatal education journey.
After each hypnobirthing session you can jump across here (to the correleating webpage) from the link in the email you receive. Here you will find useful infographics and information links, as well as a guided relaxation practice video which will help build your confidence as you practice in self-hypnosis. The more often you listen, the more the post hypnotic suggestions and affirmations will get the opportunity to embed within your subconcious mind to instill a sense of calm and confidence around your upcoming labour and birth.
This session we talked about Hypnosis as a therapeutic tool and its basis in neuroscience. We also got a feel for how hypnobirthing works to support women in labour and had a live hypnosis for birth session (which I hope you enjoyed).
Below are some links to some further reading you may find interesting (and even a podcast!):
If you are looking for a great book to accompany the course (which comes with MORE free downloadable tracks for you to enjoy) then look no further than Breathing In Short Pants by Dani Diosi. I worked with Dani in 2019- she is a fantastic hypnobirthing trainer and her book is a great compact companion!
If you haven’t learnt any specific birth breathing techniques yet, you will have been introduced to the MAMBA breath of calm during the hypnosis. It is essential breathing in for the count of 4 (through the nose) and out for the count of 8 (through the mouth with a relaxed jaw). If the 4/8 breath is too long for you, perhaps 3/6 would work better- as long as you keep the 1:2 ratio, extending the exhalation, then you can’t go wrong!
I hope you can take some time to practice it as you start each hypnosis track with a few of these before settling into your own natural breathing rhythm.
In the next session we will be exploring your confidence in birthing with a short exercise challenging any limiting beliefs which may be sat deep within.
Any questions or worries in the mean time, just drop me a message.
Happy Hypnobirthing!
Nicola
